In the early era of football, cotton was the main material used to make a pair of goalkeeper gloves, but was since stopped as because when the gloves made a contact with water, the glove will absorb the water and make it very slippery and uncomfortable and reduced greatly the ability to catch a soccer ball.

In this modern era, the goalkeeper gloves are now all made from light synthetic materials which will provide superior comfort and greater protection then the early year of goalkeeper glove.
